About Breast Cancer

The photo above was donated by Shondia McFadden Sabari  she had a bilateral mastectomy on February 11, 2011 and it was her personal choice not to have reconstructive surgery or wear breast forms. Shondia was diagnosed at the age of 36. We honor her for her boldness as her transparency about this disease give many women the courage to fight to live. Please visit her at her website:

Although a lump within the breast is the main symptom for breast cancer, many lumps are not cancerous. They can happen as a result of normal hormonal changes. Almost half of all breast lumps found in postmenopausal women, however, are malignant. A routine screening mammogram for early detection of breast cancer in women aged 40 to 74 years will reduce the likelihood of death from breast cancer by 10% to 20%.
